.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 353 PM CDT Sun Mar 30 2025
We remain under an active weather pattern over the next several days
as several disturbances move through the region. A shortwave trough
continues to lift to the northeast this afternoon and evening.
Breezy conditions continue this afternoon, with north winds around
15-20mph and gusts to around 25mph. Winds are expected to become
light and variable by Monday morning.
Monday morning, another shortwave trough will move across Kansas and
Nebraska, bringing a small chance sprinkles and flurries to areas
west of Hwy 183. High temperatures will be slightly warmer, reaching
the 50s in the afternoon. There is a 20-30% chance of a few rain
showers for areas along and west of Hwy 183 Monday evening. After
midnight, precipitation chances increase to around 20-40% for areas
south of I-80 and 50-70% chance for areas north. Thermal
profiles are currently showing temperatures warm enough to keep
p-types as rain.
Tuesday will be the day to watch for impactful weather for the area.
A surface low develops on the lee side of the Rockies during the
day, moving into central Nebraska during the afternoon and evening.
Expected high temperatures will reach into the 60s in Nebraska and
the upper 60s to mid-70s in Kansas. Instability is expected to
increase during the afternoon, and moisture will be transported in
from the gulf. Dewpoints are currently forecasted to be in the mid
to upper 40s in the eastern part of the area. Typically, dewpoints
in the mid-50s start making things feel sticky and uncomfortable out
here.
For now, all but the extreme northwestern corner of Valley County is
included in either a Marginal Risk or Slight Risk area for severe
weather. The best timing for severe weather will be between 5pm and
2am. Hail and gusty winds will be the main threats. An isolated
tornado cannot be entirely ruled out.
A broad upper trough will extend from the PACNW to central Nebraska
and south through the Four Corners Region Wednesday through Friday.
A few disturbances embedded in the broad trough will lift into the
region during this timeframe, bringing periodic chances for rain
showers. Wednesday highs will be in the 50s and 60s. Highs Thursday
and Friday cool down into the 50s.
The pattern chances Friday with split flow developing to our west.
The broad trough deepens, extending south into the Desert Southwest.
The northern split will extend south into Montana and the Dakotas.
Additional chances for rain (daytime) and a rain/snow mix (night
time) will be possible heading into the weekend.
